How to Get Your Credit Report

Under the FACT Act you are entitled to at least one free credit report per year from each of the three credit bureaus.  (TransUnion, Equifax and Experian)  The official site to obtain your free reports is http://www.annualcreditreport.com.

Many companies, including the three credit bureaus above, will sell you a copy of your credit report with varying levels of detail.  Some will include your credit score while others will not.  Additionally, you may get all three of your credit reports at one time in what is commonly called a "tri-bureau report".

Many consumers prefer tri-bureau reports but with so many options, it is easy to get confused about where to purchase your credit report.  To make it easier we have compared a few tri-bureau offers for you.

Notes TransUnion appears to be the only one of "the big three" that offers more than one of your credit scores. Ordering is slightly frustrating because Equifax pre-fills your order form to include "upsell" items.  Just uncheck the stuff you don't want and continue.  They also have a "Products" menu that offers many more credit product variations. Website is very confusing and, in our opinion, lacks enough information to adequately compare Experian's credit report offers to TransUnion or Equifax.  We were only able to locate the free credit report with credit monitoring trial.
